MySQL errors migrating to Snow Leapard

Have you seen this error when you open the MySQL pane in System Preferences?

Warning: The /usr/local/mysql/data directory is not owned by the 'mysql' or '_mysql' user.

Have you severed your connection to phpMyAdmin on your local machine?

If so, run do not walk, RUN to Corey Ehmke’s site and check out his article on updating MySQL after migrating to Snow Leopard.

I'll be posting other goodies I find as I sort out how to re-instate my MAMP stack

Until such time...

Peace Homies

My latest 100th Monkey Moment

During my dendrite explosion caused by seeing the MS Surface device, I had the thought that because MS Surface uses only your hands for input, the device would lend itself to serving up exercises used for rehabilitating stroke victims.

Today, I saw a Tweet from the Surface team linking to an article about an application developed by VectorForm that will be used to evaluate children undergoing rehab for brain injuries. A couple of cool things about this app, is that data from the evaluations will be easy to capture since the entire procedure can be conducted entirely digitally, and the doctors and/or clinicians can create their own custom evaluations. NICE!

Anyway, even though, it's not exactly the same idea I had, I still call 100th Monkey on it.

Who knows, since it is not exactly the same as "my app", maybe I'll work on getting some grant money to flesh out a prototype. Where is that stimulus money going to anyway?

Microsoft Surface and Dendrite Explosion

In the first week of April '09, I experienced my first Microsoft surface in the visitor center in building 92 on the Microsoft campus. The device was running the "attractor" application which renders a virtual pond.

I worked, I went right over and started playing with it, running my fingers across the surface and watched with amusement as the "water" rippled away from my finger tips. "Neat!" I thought to myself. I asked the friend of mine who I was with, "Is this commercially available?".

What I saw was very fun but not something that "blew my mind". I was intrigued and was looking forward to seeing where Microsoft might be going with this technology.

Then I heard some more about this device and when to the web site and absolutely fell in love with this device. Or at least the demo reel for this device.

I have been sketching ideas for user controls and new applications for this device like a house a fire!

Now..... I am looking forward to seeing where I will be going with this technology.
